Since the first edition was published in 2011, much has changed in how we think about supporting multilingual learners. Our conversation explores the shift from leadership as an individual responsibility to a shared responsibility, a deeper understanding of culturally and linguistically sustaining practices, growing recognition of how childhood adversity influences learning and teaching, and lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, these developments reinforce the urgency of creating schools where every multilingual learner experiences belonging, opportunity, and high expectations.
