This short video describes the rationale for using a strengths-based approach to support students living with adversity and includes three classroom-based strategies. The video originally appeared as part of a project for ASCD on “Trauma-Informed Practices”.

Dr. Debbie Zacarian is an internationally recognized leader in strengths-based education, known for advancing language education systems that improve outcomes for multilingual learners and students experiencing adversity. With more than 30 years of experience as a district administrator, university professor, and leader of an educational service agency, she brings a powerful integration of research, policy, and practice to her work.
